Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Henning Marine Racing (“Henning Marine”, “HMR”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses and protects information when you visit https://henningmarineusa.com (the “Site”), configure a boat through our online configurator, or get in touch about our race-ready inflatable boats. We are committed to handling your personal information responsibly and in line with applicable privacy laws — including the U.S. state privacy laws that apply to our visitors and customers, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where relevant, and the South African Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), under which our manufacturing operations are governed.
If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Site.
Who We Are
Our website address is https://henningmarineusa.com.
Henning Marine Racing is an inflatable race boat manufacturer with dual-territory operations:
- Manufacturing & race operations — Devon-Blake Henning, South Africa.
- U.S. fulfilment & distribution — Roen Marinelli, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
For any privacy-related queries, see the Contact section at the end of this policy.
What Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you give us directly, information collected automatically when you use the Site, and information from third-party services we integrate with.
Information You Provide
- Name, email address, phone number, shipping address and message content when you submit a contact, quote or enquiry form.
- Boat configurator selections (model, hull colour, components, optional add-ons, shipping preferences) and the contact details you submit alongside your build for quotation.
- Account details if you register on the Site (username, email, password, profile information).
- Comment content, name, email and website if you leave a comment on a post.
- Any files, images or documents you upload — including event registration documents, sponsorship enquiries or proof of payment.
- Order, payment and shipping details when purchasing a boat or accessories (payment card details are processed by our payment provider and are not stored on our servers).
Information Collected Automatically
- IP address and approximate location.
- Browser user agent string and device type.
- Referring URL, pages visited, time on page and click activity.
- Configurator interaction data (which views you rotated to, which components you toggled) — used to improve the build experience.
- Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 06).
Information from Third Parties
- Analytics data from Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager.
- Advertising performance data from Google Ads, Meta Ads and similar platforms (where active).
- Gravatar profile information if you comment using an email tied to a Gravatar account.
- Payment confirmation data from our payment processor.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymised string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the Site, please avoid uploading images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the Site can download images and extract any location data they contain.
Boat Configurator & Order Forms
When you build a boat using our configurator and submit it for a quote — or when you complete any contact, sponsorship or service form — the information you provide is sent to our team by email and stored on the Site for record-keeping. We use this information to:
- Generate your custom boat quote and respond to your enquiry.
- Coordinate manufacturing (South Africa) and fulfilment (United States).
- Arrange shipping, customs and delivery logistics.
- Provide warranty support, parts replacements and after-sales service.
- With your consent, follow up about related products, events or race programs.
We do not sell, rent or share configurator submissions, order details or contact form data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use cookies for site functionality, comment convenience, login sessions, configurator state, analytics and (where applicable) advertising.
Comment Cookies
If you leave a comment on the Site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies last for one year.
Login Cookies
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days and screen-options cookies last for a year. If you select Remember Me, your login persists for two weeks. When you log out, the login cookies are removed.
Editor Cookies
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. This cookie contains no personal data — it simply records the post ID of the article you edited and expires after one day.
Configurator Cookies
The boat configurator uses local browser storage to remember your in-progress build between page loads on the same device. This data stays on your device and is not transmitted to us unless you submit your build for a quote.
Analytics & Advertising Cookies
Where active, we use Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and the Meta Pixel to understand how visitors use the Site and to measure advertising performance. These services set their own cookies and may transfer information internationally. You can manage these via our cookie banner or your browser settings.
Embedded Content from Other Websites
Articles and pages on the Site may include embedded content (videos, images, social posts, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.
These third-party sites may collect data about you, set their own cookies, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content — including tracking your activity if you have an account and are logged in to that service.
Who We Share Your Data With
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with trusted service providers and partners that help us run the business and deliver your boat, including:
- Our web hosting and email infrastructure providers.
- Spam-detection services that automatically check comments and form submissions.
- Our payment processor for order transactions.
- Shipping carriers, freight forwarders and customs brokers for international fulfilment between South Africa and the United States.
- Analytics and advertising platforms (Google, Meta) where active.
- Gravatar (Automattic) where comments use Gravatar-linked email addresses.
- Race event organisers, sponsors or sanctioning bodies — only where you have explicitly registered for or entered an event we are connected to.
- Law enforcement, courts or regulators where we are legally compelled to do so.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How Long We Retain Your Data
- Comments: The comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically rather than holding them in moderation.
- Registered users: We store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit or delete this information at any time (you cannot change your username). Site administrators can also see and edit it.
- Configurator and contact submissions: Retained for up to 24 months for follow-up and quote-history purposes, unless you ask us to remove them sooner.
- Order, warranty and after-sales records: Retained for the lifetime of the boat plus a reasonable period thereafter, to honour warranty claims and provide ongoing parts support.
- Server logs: Typically retained for up to 90 days for security and troubleshooting.
- Tax, accounting and legal records: Retained for the periods required by U.S. and South African law.
What Rights You Have Over Your Data
If you have an account on the Site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, warranty or security purposes.
Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate or outdated information.
- Object to processing or withdraw consent at any time.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context behavioural advertising in the way those terms are defined under U.S. state privacy laws, but you may still submit a request).
- Lodge a complaint with the relevant data protection authority — for example, your U.S. State Attorney General’s office, an EU/UK supervisory authority, or the South African Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za).
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address in the Contact section below.
Your Cookie & Tracking Choices
You can manage your cookie preferences at any time by clicking the “Cookie Settings” link in our footer (or re-opening the cookie banner). You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings — note that disabling certain cookies may affect Site functionality, including the configurator.
Where Your Data Is Sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam-detection service. Because Henning Marine operates across two territories, your information may be processed in both the United States and South Africa, and through service providers based in other jurisdictions (Google, Automattic, Meta, payment processors, freight partners). Where this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards permitted under applicable law — including Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions and equivalent mechanisms.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction — including SSL/TLS encryption, secure hosting, strong administrator passwords and limited internal access. Payment card data is handled by PCI-compliant processors and is never stored on our servers. No transmission over the internet is ever 100% secure, however, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Children
The Site is not directed at children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated via a notice on the Site.
